Inspired Glass Decor

A range of glass sculpture inspired by the macro photography of Karl Blossfeldt.

Tim Carter, a glass maker based in Rutland creates a range of decorative homewares. His interest lies in the light transmission properties of glass and how it can be manipulated and decorated.

Using my studio as a backdrop, alongside a few interior items such as a table, fireplace, a voil, all to provide a suggestion of home. Whilst maintaining a close eye on lighting and exposure as the glass is illuminated artificially with the inclusive light included within the piece’s base.

This range of Tim’s is inspired by the sculpture and photography of Karl Blossfeldt. Karl Blossfeldt is best known for his precise photographs of plants; however, he began his career as a sculptor so a definitive link between the two there. Never formally trained in photography, Blossfeldt made many of his photographs with a camera that he altered to photograph plant surfaces with unprecedented magnification. You can see a little more information about him here.

A perfect excuse for me to get out the classic cameras to use as props.

Tim had been finding it difficult taking his own indoor shots and had been struggling with reflection and lighting.

“Richards clear, detailed photographs have captured the fine texture of the engraving and with clever use of lighting, objects and placement have given my glass lights a sense of scale, atmosphere and a place in the home.”
